WHEN DID YOU LAST FEEL HAPPIEST?

Just a couple of days ago when I was spending the day with my granddaughter Esther who has just turned one. I am filled with utter joy every time I’m with her – even just the thought of her lifts my spirits to higher ground.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE SOUND?

I think it would either have to be the sound of the sea, waves breaking on the beach, or monsoon rains – I’m an island girl at heart.

WHAT IS IT THAT MOST ATTRACTS YOU TO SOMEONE?

I am attracted to people who feel comfortable in their own skin, who have been through trials and tribulations in their life and have gained a good understanding of themselves and managed to hang onto some of their pure innocence and express it generously.

WHEN DO YOU MOST FEEL YOUR SENSE OF POWER IN BEING A WOMAN?

When I choose to keep my heart open. When I stand for something I believe in, when I take a stand to protect nature, and when I support other women.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT AGEING?

I feel that it is an honour and a privilege to be alive and experience ageing.

WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE MARKING ON YOUR BODY?

I have a scar on the palm of my left hand from a little accident I had when I was 15 years old and was with my very first boyfriend, the first person I ever fell in love with. He washed my hand and bandaged it. I always think of him when I see that scar. We stayed friends, he came to my wedding with his girlfriend to see me get married. About a year later he was in a tragic car accident and sustained terrible head injuries and was never the same again. I still miss him.

"I feel that it is an honour and a privilege to be alive and experience ageing."

IS THERE ANYTHING YOU BELIEVED TO BE TRUE AS A GIRL ABOUT BEING A FEMALE THAT YOU HAVE FOUND TO BE TRUE WITH AGE?

I was born in Sri Lanka and as a little girl, I always felt the spirit of a sisterhood amongst women and especially the women in my family. As the years have passed that feeling of sisterhood has grown broader and deepened, and now even encapsulates women on the other side of the planet I haven’t even met, yet there is that bond.

IS THERE ANYTHING THAT PROVED TO BE UNTRUE

That women are the weaker sex.

WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH YOUR MENSTRUAL CYCLE?

I have been very lucky, I didn’t grow up having painful, cramping, heavy periods. They were regular, light and pain free. I have since gone through menopause, had the hormonal imbalances, weight gain and hot flushes, and now am period-free.

WE GROW AND EVOLVE AS HUMANS BUT THERE IS USUALLY SOME KIND OF MORAL/VIRTUE THAT IS INDIVIDUAL TO US, THAT HAS ALWAYS BEEN CONSTANT AS FAR BACK AS WE CAN REMEMBER…. WHAT IS YOURS?

I’m a kind person.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT YOUR CONNECTION TO EARTH?

I have a sound connection to the earth. Nature is my religion, I believe in nature and I think we as humans are just a very small part of nature, and unfortunately now, humans have literally run amok and have become like a cancer on the planet, ravaging everything in our path. I advocate to protect nature, do everything we can to tackle climate change and regenerate the environment while we still can.

WHAT WOULD YOU MOST LIKE TO HAVE SAID ABOUT YOU IF A GIRL FOUND YOUR NAME ON THE INTERNET 100 YEARS FROM NOW?

That I loved life, lived well and died happy.
